i'm so so hungry. i went on an eating rampage in the past 3 weeks and am now suffering for it to the point where (gasp) i must attempt to diet. since i know myself too well, i know that any extreme dieting isn't going to work (altho i do occassionally do the Mary-Kate diet or fast for a day or two. but even then i tend to cheat on those) and especially since i just went grocery shopping. a note on that: i'm totally addicted to grocery shopping and cooking. it's not that i want to eat all the food i make, i just really like making it. honestly, i only want to eat a bowl of whatever i make and then i'm over it. however, coming from an asian family where it's engrained in you to waste not, want not, i really can't justify not eating all of it. and then the fattening-up cycle continues. blech.
so the rules of the new diet is to keep a record of what i've eaten. i have a mini-notebook that DRC gave me which i'm using to restrict what i eat. for each day i can only fill up 3 lines in the notebook. don't worry tho, i'm very creative in how i fill up those 3 lines (my how my handwriting's become smaller and smaller-ok, not exactly but i can squeeze a lot on those 3 lines if i really want to). the 2nd rule is to not eat after 8 p.m. this was a fine rule until yesterday when i stopped by Egg's apartment and he offered me chocolate rugelah. i always see this ginormous box of raspberry and chocolate rugelah at Costco but never buy it b/c i only want to eat the chocolate ones. turns out She and i are a perfect match b/c she only wants to eat the raspberry ones! i ended up eating a rugelah before i realized it was 9:00 p.m. damn, i broke my rule. and then i proceeded to eat 2 more. after all, since i'd already broken the rule, might as well go all out. and then there's today, where i have class from 6-8 p.m. and i tend to eat lunch late around 2 or 3 p.m. the golden rule of dieting is that once you start breaking the rules, the diet's out the window. argh.
my love for food is exorbitant and knows no bounds. it's only matched by my love of free stuff. which is why i live for all the BLS fairs and events that offer free food and drinks. i think even after i graduate i'm gonna try to show up for the student orgs fair and the street fair BLS hosts. i haven't devised a plan as to how yet, but if i get to keep my old ID, i'm on it. the street fair this year was a little disappointing. there were the staples: barbecued brisket (always good), dippin' dots, the hot dog cart (this is what i look forward to the most. i never buy hot dogs off the street. i only eat hotdogs at barbecues, which are only available in the summer; baseball games; and the BLS street fair), popcorn and cotton candy. they decided to fancy it up this year with cheese fries, sliders and wings all buffet-style on fancy trays. however, i totally missed the mozzarella sticks and, if i remember correctly, there was sushi my 1st year. o well, it was all free so i'm not complaining.
the student orgs fair is more of a toss-up. tons of free stuff but not always food and drink. lots of candy but i don't have that crazy of a sweet tooth for candy (more for cakes). the staples tho are the Wine and Food Club, which always sets out free cheese and wine. yay! reminds me of college. and the Entertainment Club always sets out jello shots tho they're never solidified, but that makes it easier to drink. this year IALSA set out gelato (i think). it was yummy. what was a little disappointing was APALSA, and no i'm not being a traitor to my own student org, but they were making a poor showing.
first off, they had a crappy table placement. last year we were in a prime spot next to the Wine and Food Club (so lots of traffic b/c the table giving out free booze always gets the most ppl); but that's not their fault b/c SBA sets up where the tables go. secondly, APALSA officers weren't mingling. they were just hanging out at their table, chatting amongst themselves. you've got to engage people! lastly, and this is about APALSA in general this year, the club's much more clique-ish this year. yes, i understand, the student org's supposed to be targeted towards asians but the whole point is to be OPEN. plus, the more members, the better the funding from school. but nope, this year APALSA's only about the asians. poor DRC and Egg. DRC signed up on their mailing list and never receives anything from them. i think it's cause they saw her name and knew right away she wasn't asian. ok, that's not true. i really don't know why she wasn't added to the mailing list and i'm just making things up.
i'm still thinking of food so i'll add the recipe for Pork and Kimchi Dumplings (click the link). i made it a while ago since my grandparents were coming from Taiwan and i was in the mood to make something (see, i'm totally addicted to making food!). it was actually pretty good, altho i recommend not using cantonese-style dumpling skins because they are very thin so when i was cooking them it was very delicate and hard to pick up after steaming.
Running commentary on the things I've seen, the places I've been and what I've done in my measly years. It might help some, entertain others or bore everyone (including me). Regardless, let's get this started...

let's play 20 questions
...and any other games. DRC hosted a game night with probably the biggest turn out for a single game night at Feil Hall that i've ever seen. but having such a big turn-out has both pros and cons. the pros was lots of people=the more the merrier, but the con was that it's hard to get that many ppl to all want to play the same game with the same amount of enthusiasm. eventually the group splintered up to play different games.

overall the night was pretty fun (although it got a little dicey when DRC tried to get us to play the vH1 i love the 80s game). once again, i rocked Pop 5. eventually the game digressed to where they just used the cards from Pop 5 to play charades. and of course, as is the custom when at a party at DRC's, someone spilled the bowl of tortilla chips.

speaking of parties, DRC and i went to the Inter-APALSA event at Vesta last night. initially i didn't really want to go the city but since i'd finally finished my Memorandum of Law for Fundamentals of Legal Drafting, i just felt the necessity to go out and it seemed like nobody was staying around locally so there was no alternative but to go to the city. ironically, it ended up being DRC, Creeper and me that went together to the event. who would've guessed that that trio would be the one together? awkward...
in the end it was a good idea going to the city. altho the Inter-Apalsa event was definitely not as successful as last year (when Co-Chair and i were the social chairs for APALSA. even t
ho our reign had its own kinks, at least we always had big turn outs to our events), BLS came out and represented (we always do). Vesta played good music, fun to dance to, and DRC and i got our dancing shoes on. at one point DRC made the decision that she should totally be a go-go dancer instead of a lawyer, and i agree. BigPapa had a table with a bottle (although we were polite and only had once cup between DRC and i-we're not complete mooches).
a few interesting things happened:
(1) the Twins came back into my life! both of them happened to be at the event (yes, asians are that clique-y. we do all know each other). it was really good catching up w/them.
(2) apparently Wifey told SuperAzn that i hate her and want to punch her in the face, which is completely untrue. i only barely know SuperAzn aside from the fact that she's Princess's mentee, from NYU, and is (as by the nickname) super-asian. honestly, Wifey's got to grow up. i know she's very insecure and likes to be the "i'm-super-straightforward-don't-care-if-you-don't-like-it" type, but she also has this mean-streak because of all that and talks a lot of shit about everybody. you always gotta be careful with that girl.
(3) DRC invited a guy from Vesta to Floyd's, thinking he was hitting on me, but in actuality he was waiting for her. the guy came over to me and DRC while we were dancing and we were about to leave to head back to Brooklyn. right at the moment he got there DRC ran off to the bathroom and the guy just continued to stand there next to me. it was kind of awkward. it was pretty obvious he was just biding time until DRC got back so i just politely made convo with him until she got back (where you from, we're heading back to Brooklyn, etc.). when DRC got back from the bathroom i immediately walked away so that he could get on with business. she invited him to Floyd's and he said yes and started to follow us and DRC ran over to me to let me know she did me a favor by inviting him to Brooklyn until i explained he was hitting on her not me. how do i know? while DRC was in the bathroom i was conversing with the guy and told him we were leaving and heading to Brooklyn which he commented was too far for him since he lived in Murray Hill. but as i walked away and he was talking to DRC and she invited him to Brooklyn i distinctly heard him say, "yea, sure i'll go". so DRC inadvertently returned the affection of the guy hitting on her and ultimately gave him her number.
(4) Lockbox, Hapa, and 2.0 just prove that all boys are dogs. in the span of the night all 3 of them peed in alleyways. Lockbox was the worst b/c he peed outside as soon as we hopped out of the cab although we were right outside of Floyd's and were about to go in. he couldn't wait the 3 seconds to walk into Floyd's and use their bathroom.
i hadn't really intended to go out for anything significant since i still had to edit my paper which was due the next day at 11 am but of course the night ended up with me getting home at 4 am and had to wake up at 9 to do work. i am completely exhausted right now, but had a great time last night. what a good call on going out.
looking all playa, playa

the Weardown
someone recently mentioned how the weardown really does work for guys some times. and you know what? i have to agree. i always knew the weardown worked, but it seems to have taken on a whole new spin recently and i gotta admit, i don't really like it.
here's the lowdown on what the weardown is. no, it's not a nickname for a real person. it's more of a labelling of the M.O. of certain guys. some guys bowl you over with how good-looking they are. others win you over with their wit, charm, and intellect. some just sweep you off your feet. or else it's just attraction at first sight. then there are the weardown guys. these guys don't do any of the above. instead they just wear you down. they hover around you, telling you how cute you are and making flirty suggestions. and you would never ever ever EVER like this guy and you constantly tell him such, but he still hovers. why does he continue to hover around you? because he wants to WEAR YOU DOWN. don't get me wrong: the weardown is applied by both guys and girls. and it's a common element of fairytale dorky guy/girl gets the popular guy/girl. it can be very endearing when you hear the story of the couple that got together because 1 of the 2 had been harboring a massive crush on the other and was just persistent until the other 1 finally got a clue and realized how great that person was. aww isn't that sweet. however, in recent times, i've noticed the weardown being employed in a much less chivalrous way. more and more, and i really only see this with guys, i see the weardown being used by guys on girls just so they can hook-up or get laid. they don't really like the girl. they don't want to date the girl. they just want to get some. that's despicable and kind of sad and pathetic too. the weardown should only be used if the other person is worth that much effort. you don't just use the weardown on everyone around you; it's not bait you put in a fishing net and see how many fish you can get. aish.
on to other topics.

i haven't been as invol
ved with APALSA this year, mainly because i'm not on the e-board anymore (and honestly, thank god. now i can just go and enjoy the events). there are only 3 events of APALSA that i always must attend: the Minority Mixer, the Mentor-Mentee dinner, and the Alumni dinner. 2 of the 3 has already happened. the Minority Mixer was held at
Bacchus this year, which was a poor choice of venue. altho we did have more outdoor room than last year's event at APT 138, the food choice was severely limited and if you're going to provide free drinks, you should at least fortify the stomachs of the people drinking or else you're gonna have a mess on your hands. the only thing they served were mini sliders and chicken puffs and these were served on platters. everyone i was with was starving since usually this event has a ginormous spread so we all hadn't eaten any dinner in preparation of the free food. it got to the poin
t that waiter would walk immediately to our table first, knowing we were dying for some food. suffice it to say that with such little amount of food in my stomach i was pretty much out of commission shortly after the event.

Mentor-Mentee dinner was also a good free food and drink event, altho my mentee couldn't make it to the dinner. [insert frowny-face here]. regardless, i brought Egg up with me and we, along with Adidas, managed to play many rounds of Gawi Bawi Bo aka Muk Chi Ba [i've recently been informed that the way we play is actually Muk Chi Ba and i've incorrectly called it Gawi Bawi Bo all these years. o well, whatevs, i'm not actually korean so it's not really my fault]. super fun. and then i believe we all ended up at Brazen Head. but don't quote me on that. because for the life of me, right now i can't remember what happened later that night. eh, o well. it must not have been important then.

if you love something, set it free...
my last duties as Co-Social Chair of APALSA was the Alumni Dinner. and luckily i didn't have to do much b/c the Alumni Chairs took care of most of it. the only t
hing i had to really plan or take care of was the after party at Floyd's. the set-up was long and tedious but once that was all taken care of and the
dinner started i was completely free to do what i wanted and passed off all duties to the new e-board. so i proceeded to get rocked.
i was so excited to eat the food and hadn't really eaten anything that day so that i could eat all the food. i even got a mountainous plate. and then i got sidetracked somehow. don't ask me how, i can't remember. i don't know how time just flew by but it did and then i had to hurriedly go downstairs and change and head over to Floyd's to set-up the drink deal and tickets with the bartenders. and i ended up not eating any of my food. that just blows.
i remember the beginning of Floyd's. i remember saying "hi" to ppl and forgetting my wallet. yet somehow, i got more rocked as the night progressed. even tho i had no money. interesting. i'm sure there was a lot of generous drink-buying going on b/c i know i had a lot of jack and cokes. any pics taken at Floyd's on my camera are ones i have no memory of.
there was something that happened that night that i do remember tho. and good thing i did. ManEater was out at Floyd's and all the 2L APALSA guys were fawning over her and i noticed Crush hovering on the edges of that crowd of fawning boys. i happen to run into ManEater on the way to the bathroom and we have this convo where she reveals that she thinks Crush is really cute (naturally i agree) and i reveal i have a Crush on crush too. being younger than me ManEater immediately starts eating her words and backtracking but i assure her it's alright: after all, he's obviously like-able or else i wouldn't like him right? who wants a crush that when you tell ppl they give you that "blech" face? through some other weird twist of events i end up being at the bar standing next to Crush and we start chatting. i mention i noticed him noticing ManEater and (in a moment of complete selflessness) i reveal to him that ManEater's definitely interested and he should go over and talk to her. he's kinda shy and takes his time so i give him a few more pushes of encouragement and they're off! and they've been a couple since.
i guess the old adage is true: if you love something, set it free. if it comes back to you, it's yours. if it doesn't, then it never was. ok, so i do understand the logic behind the saying. but i'll admit this: whenever you do "set something free" you do so always hoping that they'll come back and it sucks when they don't.

8 am nights
the recent trend seems to be for me to get home between the hours of 6:30 am-8 am. it's very crazy.
i think this all started the night of the Inter-APALSA mixer. the event was held at Aura and APALSA got hooked up by 1 of the 1L reps whose friend owns the bar. the place is ok, nothing special and it's friggin' expensive. all drinks are $10+. i gotta admit, i wasn't that psyched to go but, as an eboard member, felt i had to go and at least make an appearance. however, when i got there i got side-tracked from the ppl i'd arrived w/ b/c i was outside talking to Co-Chair. when i went in the place was packed but it turned out Aura was also hosting a Caribbean night so the bar was packed w/ppl who were definitely not APALSA. i walked all the way to the back of the bar looking for ppl i recognized but couldn't find anyone (it turned out the APALSA mixer was in the downstairs bar but i didn't find this out until later). however, i did realize 1 thing: whenever you're the ethnic minority girl at a bar, it's inevitable that someone will hit on you; it's guaranteed 1 person in the ethnic majority has a minority fetish. and i'm pretty sure this applies no matter where you go (lone white girl at an asian bar/lone asian girl at a white bar etc.). i did finally find my way downstairs and made the rounds and said "hi" and actually did start to enjoy myself, even w/Oni choking the crap out of me every time she hugged me and telling random strangers how much i "hate" the current guy she's dating (and just in case you didn't know, i don't hate him). there was this 1 interesting incident: Oni was talking this guy from Cardozo and we all started talking when all of a sudden another guy pops up behind me and starts dancing up on me (and this wasn't exactly a dancing kind of crowd). he introduces himself and it turns out he's the mentee of CardozoGuy which is ironic since i'm Oni's mentee. so Mentee and i start chatting, the whole time me thinking nothing about it except that we're obviously just talking b/c our mentors are talking. did i mention that i think he's gay? yea, i can't pinpoint any exact reason why, but that's the impression i have. so later, BLS APALSA members all go to Kunjip for food and we're all sitting there eating when in walks Mentee. he comes over to our table and says "hi" and then (obviously not noticing i'm at the table too) turns to Prez and goes:
"hey, where's _____?" (meaning me-i just realized i've never mentioned my name in this blog so i'm gonna stay w/that strain).
everyone at the table turned and looked at me and so i say "hi" and wave. after he leaves i turn to Prez and say:
"there's only 1 question i have to ask you" to which he promptly replies:
"no i don't think he's gay." he knew my question even before i asked it! but i s
till secretly believe that i was hit on by a gay guy.
we got back to brooklyn around 3 am and then i got a call from DRC so i headed over to Kili's to meet them, where they'd been for a birthday party. even tho i've never been there and wasn't there that long, the place looks chic and nice and the wood-burning smell from the fireplace makes it homey. there was a little CB action going on which caused a little tension for the 1st time in our little 3-some but ended up being the best outlet and we spent the rest of the night all 3 of us curled up in Coleslaw's bed eating tag-a-longs and revealing our most intimate/embarassing law school secrets until 6:30 am.
Oppa had gone to some house party and then there was some drama about going out to a club
due to some shady guy and he eventually ended up at Maru around 3:15 am. before they'd ordered their bottle they'd been reassured by the owner that they would have ample time to finish the bottle. however, at 3:45 am they advised Oppa and his friends that they would have to leave at 4:00 am b/c that's when they closed and it turns out ShadyGuy, who knew the owner, had something to do w/it. so Oppa and ShadyGuy stepped outside and had a little tussle (tho nothing crazy). Oppa had called me and asked us to go and meet him at Maru to help them finish the bottle but at that point it was already 3:50 am and it would've taken us 15 mins just to get to ktown so we nixed the idea.
instead we ended up at this amazing apartment located really close to ktown. the place has a sick view, 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and an impressive pool table. however, we weren't there
long b/c there was a lot of drama going on so everyone headed their separate ways. i ended up back at Coleslaw's w/DRC once again eating tag-a-longs before getting back to my apartment around 8 am.
the most recent 6:30 am excursion was the BLSPI Auction night. BLSPI did a really good job w/the auction this year, getting some amazing donations to be bid on. they were also very smart about the amount of alcohol they purchased, which seemed to be an endless supply. and as the crowd got drunker, their bids became looser as well. smart BLSPI, very smart. Coleslaw and i ended winning the raffle for free watches which is awesome (Coleslaw has an adorable Kennethc Cole watch whereas i have a sort-of bling-y BCBG watch). Coleslaw also won the bid for the TIVO (a steal at $150 which also includes 7 mths of service). the after-party was held at Brazen Head where Pervert and DRC got into a racist argument (is being that serious necessary?) and Coleslaw was getting her mack on. the rest of the night was a continuation of shenanigans that resulted in someone kissing a preteen, ordering delivery at 4:00 am, 24-hr deli run, someone taking 1 for the team and someone else hooking up. and i just want to reiterate: i am an awesome wing woman.
however, eventually we're gonna have to put a stop to these 8 am nights b/c the next day's pretty shot where we all end up at Coleslaw's vegged out eating a pizza for the entire day.

why does he get that glass while i get this one?
It's the Year of the Rat! yes, it doesn't sound as cute as last year's Year of the Pig but there are definite benefits to being born in the Year of the Rat (altho i don't know much about Chinese astrological signs except from what I've read off chinese restaurant placemats so i can't think of anything right now).
Co-Chair and i, in order to prepare for APALSA's lunch event, went into the city to pick up some decorations and prizes for the raffle. on the day of the ticker tape parade. BIG MISTAKE. it was such a nightmare b/c no one was allowed to cross Broadway and we'd made the mistake of attempting to go to Pearl River Mart. we took the 2 train to Chambers Street but b/c we couldn't get onto Broadway or cross over to get to Chinatown, we walked all the way down to Rector Street and then took the R to Canal Street. once we hit Chinatown it was as if the parade wasn't even going on b/c it was completely empty.
i took Co-Chair to real Chinatown to try and find things and we did get some stuff before heading over to tourist Chinatown where we found everything we needed. go figure right? the APALSA Lunar New Year lunch was held in the student lounge and it was a mini-mob scene but in a good way, although we only served fried rice and lo mein (i know, not original, but great for a big crowd). there was a little stress w/planning the event but in the end everything seemed to work out and i'm just glad it's over and i have a breather before the next event.
that night i met up for dinner w/Oppa at Sushi Lounge on St. Marks. we gave it a try based on someone else's suggestion b/c Sushi Lounge does happy hour sushi deals w/50% of all sushi. if we hadn't met up so early we could've caught the 10:00 pm and after 1/2 price drinks deal too. Oppa ordered about 5 or 6 rolls just for himself. before he'd ordered he'd warned me in advance how much he was going to order and wanted me to watch the waitress's face to see if there was any change or awe in her expression. however, the waitress had no reaction whatsoever. i think Oppa's pride was a little hurt by that...
after dinner we decided to head over to Gama for a few drinks. Gama's the new korean place that opened up on St. Marks and i've never tried it. we didn't order any food but a party of 6 was eating up a storm next to the bar and even tho i was full, i was tempted to order a snack. we had the cutest bartender! Oppa ordered the drinks while i went to bathroom. i'd told him i wanted a Raspberry Stoli and soda but he only heard the Raspberry Stoli part so when i came back we each had different glasses. i had a short stout tumbler (the drink was on the rocks) whereas he had a skinny tall glass. i asked him why our glasses were different and this is what he said:
"she gave us glasses based on our body type"
WHAT!?!? of course he tried to save himself by quickly making it into a joke and then looking earnest as he swore up and down that he would never say that to me if it was even remotely true. sure, sure Oppa. so to get some revenge, when Oppa went to the bathroom i asked the bartender why she gave us different glasses (even tho i already knew at that point b/c i'd sipped my drink already). she told me why (o and p.s., Oppa had ordered a Stoli Vanilla w/tonic. he later admitted he likes to try all the girlie drinks w/me since he can't officially order them when he's out w/the guys) and then asked me why i'd asked her such a question. i told her what Oppa had said and her eyes grew wide and she instantly became my girl friend and was going on about how it doesn't matter who the guy is, he can't say that to a girl.
when Oppa got back from the bathroom and finished his drink, he ordered another 1 and the bartender gave him a dirty look and said he was mean. Oppa was totally stunned and then i started laughing hysterically. i had to wait until i was finished laughing before i could explain the situation to him.
see, this is why Oppa and i will obviously never date. we are SO oppa and tongsen.
Oppa was totally stunned and then i started laughing hysterically. i had to wait until i was finished laughing before i could explain the situation to him.

am i in high school? it sure feels like it
APALSA had its 1st welcome back event when the 2nd semester started. as if on cue, SALSA and another student org had their welcome back events on the same night, and SBA also had their Pre-Barrister's Ball event earlier in the night. however, all these events worked complementary to each other and created a large crowd of BLS students who were out for the night and bar-hopping from event to event. ppl started at Subotnick Center and had the option of moving to Brazen Head, Floyd's or Magetic Field.
i started the night at Subotnick Center w/Coleslaw where SBA was doing free wine and cheese (yea free!) then i jetted over to Magnetic Field to meet w/Co-Chair and help set up for the APALSA event, but not before inviting every person i knew at Subotnick to head to Magnetic Field to meet up for drinks (you've got to promote you're own event). the turn-out ended up well and i saw plenty of ppl i hadn't seen since break. Hi Goldilocks! Hi Oni! Hi Wifey and Adidas! i missed Egg, but he was excused b/c he had a note due the next day. even Chase Honeycup and AsianFetish made it out. it was a pretty hilarious night out w/an amusing tug-of-war situation re:an 1L and going to ktown for late night Kunjip and Coleslaw somehow having left her purse at Floyd's although she spent the rest of the night w/me at Magnetic Field.
the night ended w/Coleslaw, me and a couple of others stopping for food at the nearby deli. the guys we were w/were hungry for sandwiches and Coleslaw kept trying to persuade them not to get them, proclaiming how gross it was to get a sandwich from that deli. however, once we got to the deli, Coleslaw proceeded to get money from the ATM and then, as she watched their sandwiches getting made, turned to me and asked me if i wanted to split a sandwich w/her. we ended up getting a sandwich.
here's where high school comes in. Oni brought a date who apparently, in the world of Asian 6 degrees of separation knows some who knows someone i know. the relationship is as reedonkulously stretched out as it sounds: he is the brother of someone who's best friends w/the cousin of a girl who's the ex of my really good friend. phew! out of this reedonukulous Kevin Bacon chain, the only ppl i've personally met are the ones in bold. apparently, this cousin of the girl who's the ex of my really good friend heard i was talking about her. but i've never met her and have no real knowledge about her, personal or otherwise.
it's preposterous to think that somewhere out there, a girl i've never met and know nothing about thinks that i would want to talk about her. although, i am mentioning her now. but this doesn't count right? well, regardless, congrats to her, she's now made it and is someone i might passingly talk about! maybe that was the plan all along...
however, after discussing the initial preposterousness (is that a word? i doubt it but i'm claiming it anyway) of the whole situation i refuse to mention it again because i graduated from high school a long time ago

last hurrah before Thanksgiving

let's reminisce about happier days...or at least more fun days. the last time i can recall that iwas actually out and about was right before thanksgiving. that's so sad... well at least when i did go out i made it worthwhile.
APALSA planned a last hurrah event at Vesta, planned by the 1L reps and they did a good job. definitely lots o' asians. although most of them didn't go to BLS. nor were they members of APALSA. o well, the more the merrier i guess. Adidas, Wifey and i went there together and it was kind of quiet at 1st but then ppl started to trickle in. i'm actually not a big fan of Vesta only b/c it's kind of small. however, they came through by offeri
ng 2 for 1 deals. YEA!! and you had to buy both drinks at once (easier to administer it that way). so double shots all around! Adidas and Wifey began the night by deciding to see who could outdrink the other (it's not really a contest b/c it's pretty much lose-lose either way: Adidas will turn into a sloppy mess while Wifey will turn belligerent and sullen). Snoopy had called me earlier b/c he'd gotten an invite from 1 of the 1L reps (yes it's a small world always) and met me there. it's hard to pinpoint anything specific for the night b/c there was a lot of ppl there and there was lots of different stuff going on. 1 of the 1L reps was trying to get his mack on. Adidas somehow knew a whole group of boys that nobody knew. BST was doing "Cali dancing" ( it involves lots of arms if i remember correctly). Hey-Yaaa and i were discussing how i felt weird talking to ppl i didn't know b/c everyone was very 6-degrees of separation but we kept perusing the crowd for good-looking boys. hitting on Buddy and his little brother. and lots and lots and lots of Grey Goose shots.

afterwards we went to Kunjip for food. i can't remember if we took a cab or walked or what. i think it was a cab. yea, this is where the night got kind of hazy. i know we got to

g alike. i kept asking "are you guys really brothers? really? REALLY?!?!" i'm sure it was annoying. poor Buddy, i always bug him when i get drunk...is it my subconscious trying to say something (wink, wink)?

why is God trying to kill me?
why is it that w/o fail whenever something important/that i want to do comes up i will inevitably get deathly ill aka the plague?
last year i got sick right before exams. it was a complete nightmare and at 1 pt i was literally crying b/c i was so ill it was to the pt i just wished i was dead. of course it didn't help that i was dating Gohm at the time and whenever i whined to him about being sick he refused to coddle me (plus he was always going out w/his friends while i was on my deathbed which is like taunting a starving man by eating a giant steak in front of him).
this year i got sick right before the inter-APALSA mixer that i'd coordinated. it was the 1st time that BLS APALSA had officially coordinated a NYC APALSA event w/all the NYC law schools: Columbia, NYU Law, St. Johns, Cardozo, Fordham Law, Hofstra and New York Law. the event was hosted at Town Tavern and me and Co-Chair hyped it up b/c we wanted BLS to represent itself. then i got the plague.
i was home w/a fever, body aches, and coughing up a lung. it was completely miserable. so of course i couldn't attend the event. i did hear that BLS APALSA came out in full force and everyone seemed to have a good time. i even heard Wifey come home around 1 am which means it must've been ok b/c considering Adidas and i didn't go if it'd sucked she would've bailed after an hour.

finally, a quiet weekend
a new event that APALSA did under our e-board was the Scav-evanger hunt (named thusly for Co-Chair). since this was a while ago, i can't remember what i did the night before, but i do remember being super hung-over the next morning, but i still dragged my ass out of bed and went to school to meet up w/the crew for a scavenger hunt around Brooklyn Heights, which encompassed DUMBO, Carrol Gardens and Boerum Hill. Co-Chair and i didn't partake of the actual hunt since Co-Chair wrote the clues and i was too un-functional to make the effort. instead we got the snacks and lemonade for the guys for when they finished the hunt.
the clues were pretty creative tho, and definitely opened up the area and introduced some new places. here's some of them:
1. Find the special of the day at Noodle Pudding-38 Henry Street
2. Take a picture of yourself on line at Grimaldi's-19 Old Fulton Street
3. Name the fruity street names in the neighborhood
4. Landmarks: Jane's Carousel-56 Water Street
Norman Mailer's place-142 Columbia Heights
Birthplace of AA-182 Clinton Street
62 Montague Street-where Arthur Miller (author of Death of a Salesman) lived w/Marilyn Monroe
5. Find the highest score on Pac-Man at Tea Lounge-254 Court Street
6. What's inside a "dark and stormy"?
after the scavenger hunt Egg, Brantley, Ol' S and Wifey met me for brunch at Lobo which completely hit the spot. it was all in celebration of Egg's bday which was that weekend. o yea! that's it! me and Oni had gone out the night before and made a stop at Sin Sin for Egg before heading over to the Park to meet her ex! wow...i'm impressed i remembered that. hmm, why was i so hungover the next day? o yea, it was those Petron shots...blech.
back to the Mexican brunch. Brantley got a delicious and huge burger instead of traditional brunch fare. it was so cute b/c she was so specific in getting the perfect cheeseburger w/fried egg. we were all like seagulls circling around her french fries which were just the way i like them (crispy crispy crispy). the meal i was most envious of was the Tulsa: jalapeno cheese grits w/2 eggs and tortillas, which Egg was smart enough to get. those grits were so delicious. i got the huevos rancheros which were good, but ended up not being so smart for my sensitive tummy and i wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce they used. Wifey and Ol' S got the Migas which was also really good from what i tasted.
Wifey, being the korean she is, had to go for both tabasco sauces: the red and the green chile kind. she quickly learned how spicy the green one can be. it was hilarious to see her, the korean spicy queen, admit defeat from a hot sauce. she was just about tearing at 1 point and had to gulp down rice and water.

Haeyaoke
once again we went to Toto (take a lucky guess as to who recommended that). the event was pretty fun overall. i got to see Haeya turn into mean korean girl which was hilarious. Co-Chair sang the 1st song and when he finished his score popped up on
i also got to see Prez sing what has now turned into his trademark song (Burn by Usher). everyone's jaw just about fell to the ground
Wifey was completely out of hand tho. she had brought her own bottle of vodka and was plugging away at it slowly and just got completely belligerent. she slowly but surely receded into the corners of the sofa and was pretty quiet for the night until she drunkenly professed her love for me and lamented our current roommate situation. when we finally checked out, Wifey was in her grumpy belligerent drunk phase and was clamoring for food so most of the e-board went b

Mentor-Mentee '07
a long overdue post but i had to wait for pics to be available an
d thanks to Prez i can now put something up w/this post.
the 1st APALSA event that Co-chair and i had to plan together was the M
entor-Mentee dinner which is also 1 of the 1st big events of the year for APALSA so there was a lot riding on it. while it was definitely a stresser to find someone to provide food, order dessert, coordinate the set-up and clean-up crew, and then picking all these things up, overall i had a good time.
Co-chair and i decided to go w/variety for the food (from Sea
Asian) and Asian desserts in the form of cakes from Tai Peng in Chinatown (green tea and Asian tiramisu-gotta love the Asian desserts: never too sweet but always light and delicious). the biggest pain was obtaining the wine. i went to Trader Joe's to pick
up 2 cases of wine (1 red and 1 white) and luckily for me Egg was available to help me carry the cases home but even then they were reedonkulously heavy. after Egg and i got off the subway we stopped at BLS to pick up his stuff from the SBA office and i took the chance to call Adidas to come and meet us so he could carry my case of wine b/c at that point my arms were about to fall off.
even tho we ran out of food (can we pls RSVP ppl?) and wine (BLS APALSA really represents when it comes to the booze) i think
overall the event was a success w/a really high turn-out and afterwards we all went to Trout for the after-party. Ultimately Prez and i ended up at our favorite Carrol Gardens Diner w/GJ and Chaeso where old APALSA e-board was also eating.
2 ppl ended up crying that night. i'm just glad i wasn't 1 of them.

flowers in the attic
Brantley recently hosted a game night and, like the dork that i am, i was giddy w/anticipation for it. Friday night rolled around and when i showed up at Brantley's the set-up was very impressive. she had delicious food laid out (thank god for Trader Joe's) along w/25+ bottles of wine (again, compliments of Trader Joe's). props have to be given to Brantley for her impressive hosting skills.
things really started to get dramatic when we played Pop 5. a product of the Cranium crew, Pop 5 takes a spin off the whole Cranium concept, in which you allot points for each clue category based on what the topic/card is. simple enough. the 1st time we played the teams were pretty much evenly split at random. ultimately we discovered: i rock at this game. aside from the time when i have to be a clue-giver, i'm an awesome guesser. i mean, guessing Metallica from a drawing of a scale and knowing the category's music? that's just genius. what really brought me to superstar status tho was the last question. Mike decided to sculpt the topic which we only knew was in the category "book." he started to sculpt what looked like a mushroom to me (Alice in Wonderland?) but which DRC guessed "flower." DRC guessed Flowers for Algernon and when this was wrong i immediately yelled Flowers in the Attic (and yes, the game had escalated to the point where we were always screaming our answers). the look on the opposing team's face was priceless. their jaws just sort of dropped and they were all stunned. turns out i'm the only person who knows about this book which surprises me b/c i remember it being a big deal when i was a kid due to the 80's movie. plus, who doesn't know about the book dealing w/brother-sister incest?
i felt even more vindicated when i saw a recent episode of Ugly Betty in which they made reference to the book in relation to the possibility of Amanda and Daniel being half brother-sister and having slept together.
after this round i became the golden ticket that everyone wanted on their team. Josh, bless his heart, kept adamantly demanding we be on the same team. ultimately it came down to boys vs. girls aka the gays vs. the breeders. the gays also got Egg by default (he did dance ballet in high school). they still lost. afterwards we headed towards Brazen Head for more drinks before i stumbled home around 3 am only to have to wake up to make PB &J sandwiches at 10:30 am for the APALSA kickball game at Prospect Park.
Co-chair came over w/a ginormous pumpkin spice latter (yea it's back! and bless his heart) and we made brown bag lunches for the event. it was an adorable concept and prob 1 of the most kick-ass brown bag lunches ever made: Oreo cookies (mint, double-stuffed and chocolate creme), fresh fruit( orange wedges and grapes), juicebox (apple juice/gatorade) and PB & J sandwiches (cut into 1/4s-it was so cute). we were literally making these lunches until the last minute but they went over well at the event, which also had a decent turn-out.
and mock my athletic ability all you want, but my team won. so nah-ni-nah-ni-nah-nah. of course i did have Chase Honeycup on my team. and i really pitched my ass off. don't believe me? i pitched so well i got Co-Chair to foul out.
