Detroit in the House

DRC has turned 1 year older. congrats to DRC! the celebration was 3-fold: dinner at Joya, pre-game at DRC's apartment, the final party at M1-5.

the dinner at Joya got botched b/c Joya messed up the reservation so instead we ended up eating at Cafe Chili, which i've never been to before but
had heard good things about. the price is slightly higher than Joya but, for me, the quality was comparable, altho the number of options weren't as plenty as Joya's. there's also a whole Italian side of the menu that you can order from, but the prices for those entrees were exorbitant.the real celebration was when the drinking started (of course).

by the time we arrived at M1-5, DRC was pretty rocked (as should be expected of the birthday girl). DRC reserved tables and got comped a bottle of champagne and some drink tickets which helped to make my night better and i definitely drank a sufficient amount to the point i kept leaving floaters of Jack and Coke all over the place.

as fun as it was, i'd broken my heel right before we entered the bar (i never even knew that really happened!) and when the party started to move to Williamsburg i decided to forego. it wasn't so bad to go home earlier tho b/c at least i got to share a cab w/Crush <3>

and then it was all over

do you know how addicted i am to that So You Think You Can Dance video? everytime i come upon my blog i just have to watch it at least once. it's just too good.
yes, i'm hopelessly behind on trying to keep this thing updated. it's just been a very blah period for me and i just can't seem to get myself motivated. i hope this funk doesn't last too long. i'm too young to be going through mid-life crisis already...

the revelry and summer antics began once law school finished up in mid-May. as soon as finals was over, Senior Week began. as i learned, Senior Week=drunken revelry. the finals party was at ReBar in DUMBO. from what i can remember, the place is pretty nice (trendy, dark and loungey), except when it gets packed it's practically impossible to get drinks and the drinks are pretty pricey for any Brooklyn bar i've ever been to. i think it was the pre-gaming before the Finals Party that got me in trouble altho all i drank was beer and didn't even participate in flip cup and i'm pretty sure i only had 2 or 3 drinks (altho ReBar does make them heavy-handed on the alcohol FYI). for whatever reason, i got trashed. in about half the pics i post here from that night i'm admitting now that i don't remember taking them. and sadly, i lost my jacket that night, which i've only owned for about 5 months (at the time). so sad. tho it led to something funny happening later: i wanted to step outside for some air but didn't have a jacket and it was still pretty cold at the time so Adidas lent me his. i stumbled outside and ran into Buddy who had been drinking around the corner and somehow convinced me it was time to go home. i later found out that Buddy was so wasted that he had passed out at the bar around the corner. anyways, Buddy hailed a cab and was grabbing my arm and pulling me into it (tho i was so drunk it wasn't that hard). anyways, i wake up the next morning and noticed i went home wearing Adidas' jacket. luckily he lives in my building so it wasn't that bed. i bent over to pick it up and realized something else: Adidas' wallet was still in his jacket. i checked my phone and there was a bajillion calls from Adidas, Egg and DRC who i'd walked out on w/o saying bye or letting them know i'd left. needless to say i profusely apologized to Adidas and Egg, altho it turned out it wasn't as necessary to DRC b/c she was also pretty drunk and got into her own hijinx (and it's accompanying scandal but let's leave that alone since it's so over and done w/).
a few days later was a going-away party at M1-5 which was another drinking fest altho way more dramatic and i completely wreaked havoc on my body. point of fact: you should stop drinking when the sun comes up. i didn't heed this advice and was up drinking until 7 am and then woke up at 11:30 am to go to the Mets game w/DRC and the rest of BLS. it was a nightmare riding the 7 train to Shea Stadium and (of course) the seats were very high up and you can imagine how fun that dizzying climb was while i was super hungover. i was so pissed i was in such bad shape that i couldn't eat any stadium food e.g. hotdogs and beer. and poor DRC could tell i was suffering on the subway ride back to Brooklyn. i'm pretty sure i even announced at some point that i just wanted to throw up-not a smar thing to do on the subway.

the week consisted of birthday parties and meeting up w/friends for more drinks and by the end i was burnt out but what a way to go.

apparently i'm underaged

so last weekend Oni (who has advised me that it should be spelled "unni" but i don't care. i like "oni") asked me to go speed dating w/her. it's not the 1st time i've been asked to go w/a friend but since Oni also made the offer to cover my registration and it was going to be Asian speed dating, i thought i'd give it a shot. plus, aren't you just a little curious about what it's like?
so the event was hosted by click2asia at M1-5, a bar/lounge close near the chinatown area. so i get sort of dressed up to go, not for the event but b/c afterwards i'm supposed to go to Spoon's law school graduation/took the bar exam party. i must look like such a schlub on a daily basis b/c Oni was shocked at how i looked. i'm not understating that she was genuinely surprised.

so we get to the event and i'm looking around and checking out the ppl. there is a disproportionate number of goodlooking girls vs. goodlooking guys. i mean, i would tell any of my guy friends to go b/c i'm pretty sure they would clean house, it's that reedonkulously disproportionate. so Oni and i get to sit next to each other, so every guy that she's talked to, i talk to right after. the whole experience is interesting but surreal. you really don't get a good feel about anyone, it's just for you to judge based on looks and then chat and make sure it's not awkward and they're not complete losers.

they give you a break about halfway into it and to add some comedy to the night, i get up to go outside for a cig break. it being kind of dark in the bar and me never having been there before, i go to walk and don't see the step and take a massive digger onto the ground. so embarassing. and then i'm expected to try to get 1 of these ppl to date me? yea right, like that's gonna happen. Oni tries to comfort me by claiming nobody saw. of course, when we go to the bar these 3 guys who aren't part of the event chat us up while we're getting drinks and 1 of them immediately asks if i saw the girl who fell. and i had to sheepishly admit it was me. sigh.

so after the event Oni and i head over to fiddlesticks. i will be boycotting this bar. so i get there and of course they ID me at the door. they take their time, look it up and down, and then refuse to let me in. they don't believe i'm over 21. i'm in complete shock! since i've never actually been in this situation it was the 1st time i realized that, if someone doesn't accept your ID you really don't have any other options. so i just had to suck it up. Egg was meeting us there so we waited for him to get there. he showed up w/a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand and put it down on the ground in front of me so he could go inside fiddlesticks and use their bathroom. while he's inside, the manager comes over to me and asks me if the bottle's mine. i say "no" and he confiscates it. i tell Egg this when he comes back outside and he gets infuriated and goes inside to get his bottle back. and he actually gets it! they give him a spiel about his "underaged" friend having the bottle in front of her and he retorts back how i'm not underaged and how the bottle was on the sidewalk OUTSIDE their establishment and they had no jurisdiction, etc.

we ended up just heading home after that where Egg and i promptly got into a fight.
