argh... i've been attacked by bug bites. according to DRC, mosquitoes are attracted to individuals that process cholesterol well. i haven't actually verified this theory so i'm not sure, but apparently she saw something on tv about it. SantaClaus was in town visiting Coleslaw and i would never miss a chance to meet Coleslaw's dad and she wanted us to meet him too so we all went to Joya together for dinner. it's weird, i feel like i've been busy and social all summer but somehow i missed out on going to a Brooklyn staple like Joya since the summer started. weird. it was good to be back the place and i was starving by the time i got there so i went all out and ordered Summer Spring Rolls and Garlic Beef and Vegetables and i managed to eat it all (me and Cubed were the only ones who accomplished this feat). DRC picked at her fried rice (w/o egg-Coleslaw thinks this detracts from the whole point of fried rice but i must point out: not all asian fried rice contains egg. while most do, there are very delicious ones that don't), Egg always has a diet-conscious appetite and Santa, unfortunately, didn't like his dish (it was some special involving scallops and shrimp i believe and i don't know why he didn't like it but he definitely did not). what i did enjoy was the LARGE order of calamari he ordered as an app. when Joya says large, they really mean large! and it's not just the portion but the pieces of fried calamari were also pretty big. i don't remember ever seeing this app option on the menu but i will definitely be ordering it next time. it was delish. however, my right shoulder got 5 bites on it and my left shoulder had 1 bite on it from mosquitoes. Cubed pointed out that apparently my right shoulder must process cholesterol very well. who knows?
but i digress by focusing on the food. the whole point was to meet Santa! and they mythical figure did not disappoint. he's hilarious and entertaining and obviously related to Coleslaw. anyone who's met my parents will understand that distinct "parental" feel that meeting some people's parents have. w/those, there's always a distinct, no-matter-what-age-you-are-you're-always-the-child-and-they're-the-adult feeling but that was definitely not the case w/Santa. i mean, he even sang I'm a Little Teapot for us (which was an adorable childhood story but Egg's "my parents told me i was an alien" tops it).
it worked out pretty well for me that Santa was in town b/c i got to do some stuff that i should've done when i moved to Brooklyn 2 yrs ago. for instance, i finally went to Grimaldi's. yes, i've lived in Brooklyn only 20 mins from Grimaldi's but never went. yes, it's very sacriligious but now it's been rectified. we went on a Monday night but it seems that w/the nice weather and the summer winding down, everyone and their mother was there that night. we had to wait for an hour on line just to eat and while yes, the pizza was very good, we wolfed it down w/in 15 mins of it arriving (there were 5 of us and we finished 2 pies). it did cause me to wonder a little, is it so good b/c you've been thinking about it for an hour while waiting on line and slowly getting more and more starved or is it that it's actually that delicious? the jury's still out on that question for me and i think the only way for me to reach a definitive conclusion would be to go back and try it all again. or maybe i'm just looking for an excuse to go back...
after Grimaldi's we headed over for a drink at Pier 1. this place just opened up this summer and i'd never been but the view is gorgeous at night and there's even a man-made sandbox (bigger than it sounds). it was adorable to see the kids playing in it, although Coleslaw was astute in observing that the kids were just building sandcastles so they could destroy them (which they promptly did). ah kids...Pimento had hyped up the s'mores served at Pier 1 and DRC and i were craving sweets so we ordered 1 single order to be split ($4 for 2 s'mores). it wasn't that good. the way they make it is to construct a s'more and wrap it in aluminum foil and put it over the stove to cook. that ends up burning the bottom of the s'more but leaving the marshmallow and everything on top not cooked/melted at all which deprives the whole point of the s'more! Pimento was sufficiently outraged that he went back and demanded they rectify the situation (and this was after he already made them mad when initially ordering the s'more). his 2nd order came out better but we were all guessing it might've tasted better b/c of some secret spit ingredient they put in.
did anyone see the string of celebrity deaths that have been going on? 1st Bernie Mac and now Isaac Hayes? what is going on? and as i've said, bad things always come in 3s...
Running commentary on the things I've seen, the places I've been and what I've done in my measly years. It might help some, entertain others or bore everyone (including me). Regardless, let's get this started...

and then it was all over
do you know how addicted i am to that So You Think You Can Dance video? everytime
i come upon my blog i
just have to watch it at least once. it's just too good.

yes, i'm hopelessly behind on trying to keep this thing updated. it's just been a very blah period for me and i just can't seem to get myself motivated. i hope this funk doesn't last too long. i'm too young to be going through mid-life crisis already...
the revelry and summer antics began once law school finished up in mid-May. as soon as finals was over, Senior Week began. as i learned, Senior Week=drunken revelry. the finals party was at ReBar in DUMBO. from what i can remember, the place is pretty nice (trendy, dark and loungey), except when it gets packed it's practically impossible to get
drinks and the drinks are pretty pricey for any Brooklyn bar i've ever been to. i think it was the pre-gaming before the Finals Party that got me in trouble altho all i drank was beer and didn't even participate in flip cup and i'm pretty sure i only had 2 or 3 drinks (altho ReBar does make them heavy-handed on the alcohol FYI). for whatever reason, i got trashed. in about half the pics i post here from that night i'm admitting now that i don't remember taking them. and sadly, i lost my jacket that night, which i've only owned f
or about 5 months (at the time). so sad. tho it led to something funny happening later: i wanted to step outside for some air but didn't have a jacket and it was still pretty cold at the time so Adidas lent me his. i stumbled outside and ran into Buddy who had been drinking around the corner and somehow
convinced me it was time to go home. i later found out that Buddy was so wasted that he had passed out at the bar around the corner. anyways, Buddy hailed a cab and was grabbing my arm and pulling me into it (tho i was so drunk it wasn't that hard). anyways, i wake up the next morning and noticed i went home wearing Adidas' jacket. luckily he lives in my building so it wasn't that bed. i bent over to pick it up and realized something else: Adidas' wallet was still in his jacket. i checked my phone and there was a bajillion calls from Adidas, Egg and DRC who i'd walked out on w/o saying bye or letting them know i'd left. needless to say i profusely apologized to Adidas and Egg, altho it turned out it wasn't as necessary to DRC b/c she was also pretty drunk and got into her own hijinx (and it's accompanying scandal but let's leave that alone since it's so over and done w/).
a few days later was a going-away party at M1-5 which was another drinking fest altho way more dramatic and i completely wreaked havoc on my body. point of fact: you should stop drinking
when the sun comes up. i didn't heed this advice and was up drinking until 7 am and then woke up at 11:30 am to go to the Mets game w/DRC and the rest of BLS. it was a nightmare riding the 7 train to Shea Stadium and (of course) the seats were very high up and you can imagine how fun that dizzying climb was while i was super hungover. i was so pissed i was in such bad shape that i couldn't eat any stadium food e.g. hotdogs and beer. and poor DRC could tell i was suffering on the subway ride back to Brooklyn. i'm pretty sure i even announced at some point that i just wanted to throw up-not a smar thing to do on the subway.

the appearance of the sex face
it's been a whirlwind of info and activity since this event so i haven't been able to write about it, but it's finally here: LAW PROM!!! but before i can discuss the event itself, i've gotta discuss how i ended up there. i didn't go to Barrister's Ball last year (when i had a bf/permanent date) so i definitely wasn't planning on going this year
(when i don't have a bf/permanent date). however, Coleslaw, DRC and Ol' had different plans for me. it was about a week before the prom and they had all just assumed i was going and when i told them i wasn't they were all pretty shocked but at this point the tickets had increased in price by 2/3s so my option of purchasing one was pretty much out the window. Coleslaw then turned to me and pulled $20 from her wallet and said, "if i give
you $20 will you consider purchasing a ticket?" I wasn't sure what to say and then DRC and Ol' also pulled money from their wallets and said they would also contribute if i just came b/c they really wanted me there. i was so touched! now, when i retold this story to Oppa his immediate reaction was:
"what are you poor?"
whereas, when i told Kiks this story her immediate reaction was:
"aww! your friends are so sweet!"
opposite sexes really have totally different brains. anyways, so after that it was set in stone and i purchased my Barrister's Ball ticket. but i love those girls for making it happen.
Law school prom is just like high school prom, except you can legally drink. all th
e pre-prom rituals are the same: shopping for dresses, getting manis and pedis, doing your hair and make-up. everyone had such adorable dresses! and then there was mine. Ol' and i went to Forever 21 to look at dresses (yes, i am that classy) and i finally found this blue one that i thought was fun enough for law school prom (b/c we're all too old to wear those poofed-out cupcake dresses now). i showed Ol' and she also liked it, although we noticed that when i jumped up to do a victory "yippee!" that the dress was a little short. the day before prom i went down to Coleslaw's and we all compared dresses and tried them on. when DRC lay our dresses out on the bed was when i realized exactly how short my dress was. and then it started to dawn on me: maybe my dress wasn't actually a dress at all. after further investigating (Coleslaw checked the tag), our suspicions were confirmed: my dress was actually a shirt. but let me explain b/c when i tried it on everyone noticed that it didn't look like a shirt, and looked legitimately like a dress. i also felt better when i realized that, when on, DRC's dress was actually shorter than mine. so phew! there was 1 wardrobe malfunction tho when Lane and i started dancing together and she kept pulling my dress up. luckily i wore nice underwear. afterwards (she was a little drunk) she turned to me and said, "i just rocked you" and all i can say is, yes, she definitely did.

basis of comparison but i've heard horror stories about last year's venue. Steiner Studios 6 was pretty nice and the view (the 1 time i cared to look) was gorgeous. i preferred the cocktail room set-up vs. the main dining room's set-up but then again, the former made drinking easier whereas the latter allowed dancing. the p
rom itself is very much like rowdy college cotillions. everyone's drinking like fiends (it was 5-hr open bar) and all the single ppl are all trying to hook-up. about every 10 mins i would notice out of the corner of my eye another couple making out (or maybe it was the same ones just moving around). and, very much like high school, there was an underlying current of drama-it was always there, just on the cusp. DRC had her tensions w/a certain BMOC which continued all the way through to the after-party in DUMBO. Coleslaw was the funniest but that may have been b/c she was the most inebriated. aside from leaving her purse at the prom venue, there were 3 very funny incidents of Coleslaw's (that i heard 2nd hand tho):
1. DRC went to the coatcheck to try and get Coleslaw's coat and since Coleslaw had lost her ti
cket the coatcheck girl asked Coleslaw to identify anything about the jacket: what was in the pockets, color, etc. what Coleslaw managed to muster was "it's Anne! it's Anne!" what she meant was it's either Ann Taylor or Anne Klein. eventually she did get her jacket (luckily there were only about 3 or 4 left at that time) but it wasn't b/c of the specificity of her description.
2. at the after-party, apparently Coleslaw fell down the stairs.
3. Coleslaw and Ol' got ready to leave the after-party. when DRC sees them she notices Ol' has her jacket on but not Coleslaw. she asks what happened and Ol' says
she can't find it, it's gone. DRC looks at Coleslaw and, even tho it's freezing outside, Coleslaw just shrugs her shoulders ambivalently. ok, maybe for this story you'd have to see the re-enactment but the look on Coleslaw's face when she does this guesture is one of the cutest and amusing expressions.
so shenanigans abounded, as they should at any prom. and everyone, even i, was involved in something that they wish they hadn't done...

DUMBO
so, a little bit ago, on a beautiful summer saturday, Egg invited me to go out to Brooklyn Bridge Park which is located at the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO. i'd never been before, so Egg and i wandered over. the park is actually very beautiful and the view is gorgeous. while we were there we saw at least 3 different wedding parties posing for wedding pictures, getting that perfect NYC Brooklyn Bridge background.
the weather was sunny w/a bit of a breeze so we just laid out and Egg read his book while i listened to my iPod and took a nap. such a pleasant way to spend time outdoors.
afterwards, we walked toward the other end of the park and watched a bit of the show they were presenting which was very Cirque de Soleil. we slowly meandered back to Feil, passing Bubby's, where we will definitely go and eat at some point b/c when we peeked in we saw some of the biggest burgers i'd ever laid eyes on, and Jacques Torres. apparently Jacque Torres is a famous chocolatier. walking into the shop was like walking into chocolate heaven. they had adorable homemade cookie sandwiches (peach, banana, vanilla, chai and mint flavored options) and the most attractive item was their frozen hot chocolate. you can choose between wicked (infused w/mexican chili) and classic. Egg ordered a classic and i guess there was a run on them b/c the guy making them ended up making extra. so Egg asked to have the extra one and they gave it to him for free! score free drink for me! and it was delicious.
