La Boheme

w/o Debs in my life, i prob wouldn't have anything cultural/sophisticated to talk about, let alone anything truly exciting in the "real-world" sense of things. but luckily for you and i, she is in my life and so i have this entry.

Debs had bought tickets to La Boheme performed by the NYC Opera at Lincoln Center for her lil' sis who ironically wanted to see Rent instead of it (Rent is based on La Boheme, something i didn't know until Debs told me at the opera house) so Debs asked me to go instead. i was really psyched to go but worried too since i don't do too well at truly cultural events (i always fall asleep at ballets and orchestras/symphonies when they're held indoors). i didn't have to worry b/c La Boheme was performed beautifully and i really enjoyed it, at 1st straining to read the supertitles and then not caring about them near the end. gotta love that Puccini.

since it was Friday night, i'd already gotten a bunch of calls about events going on and was sort of relieved about attending the opera w/Debs since it took off some of the pressure of trying to figure out where to go and what to do. afterwards, we went to grab some dinner at Heartland Brewery in Union Square (pumpkin ale's now available. it tasted like a beer-y version of pumpkin pie so i was in heaven) before heading over to Slate for GJ's boyfriend's bday party where Prez was. i was excited for Prez and Debs to meet b/c i think they're both adorable ppl and they're both my pseudo-dates sometimes, plus they're amongst my friends w/the least drama which i love the most.

Debs only stayed for a little at Slate (she gets uncomfortable in super-Asian crowds having grown up all twinkie) and that's when random chaos started. Chipmunk, Snoopy and GMoon called (all separately) a bunch of times trying to get into Slate but the doorman was being a douche and wasn't letting anyone else in (it was only 1 am-ish at the time). turns out GMoon and Chipmunk were w/Institution and they'd tried to get in w/about 12 other dudes and no girls(way too much sausage to get in anywhere really). they all travelled over to meatpacking but Chipmunk came back around by himself and i got him in under the "he's-my-boyfriend-and-i-need-him-to-walk-me-back-home-so-pls-let-him-in" pretense. eventually the group went to ktown and Prez and i opted to get food at Kunjip where i ran into Snoopy (who seemed pretty pissed that i hadn't called him back). he went on to norebang while Prez and i and the rest of the group stayed.

turns out Institution and GMoon were eating at the Japanese place above Kunjip (i know ktown's small but sometimes it's a little too small) and we all finished around the same time and headed back to Feil (after a lot of loitering in ktown w/all the guys trying to figure out where to go next and where to meet girls-since i was the only girl at this pt). some of us ended up at Institution's apt drinking Modelos and talking about ridiculous stuff until 7 am. what a weird weird night. it started out so nice and classy w/Debs and ended so frat-ish w/Institution and the guys.

Tequila is my kryptonite

near the start of school (which now feels like AGES ago even tho it's not even the end of september yet), AABANY hosted their welcome-back-to-school event at Slate and as an APALSA eboard member, i felt compelled to go. plus there were free drink tickets and free food.
Adidas and i headed over together, worried that 1Ls would show up and not recognize anyone but we were worried over nothing b/c no 1Ls showed up. bastards. Chipmunk met us there and we all started playing pool, eating food and just generally having a good time. Oni and Husband showed up later along w/Prez, all some of my favorite ppl. we also met a very pretty half-German, half-Korean waitress named Sharon so it was an overall good time and nobody wanted to stop when the event was over.

so we went to ktown. what were we thinking?

i convinced everyone to go to Players instead of Third Floor since i like the anju that Players gives us and it's not as crowded but they still play good music. i was all ready to get the Johnnie Walker/Ballantine bottle deal but the Prez and Husband (both koreans) wanted the Patron Silver deal. and i totally caved. that's what happens when you date a korean guy for a year. you just compromise a lot instead of butting heads. i definitely didn't take many of those shots but at the end of the night Oni and Adidas were rocked and i was harboring a very strong buzz. we meandered over to Kunjip afterwards and ate some food and drank some more baek saeju and then all headed home. since we were 4+1 and the cabbie was giving us trouble bout it, i just hopped out and got my own cab.
on the way home i realized i was pretty damn rocked myself and promptly threw up when i got home.

Slate-another goodbye

argh...i knew today was gonna be a bad day. i just woke up and had a bad feeling. i think all my late night sleeping has finally caught up w/me b/c i was super-cranky when i first woke up. how did i know that i was super-cranky? well, when i woke up and smelled cig smoke i was immediately pissed at Wifey for smoking in her room at 9 am. that's when i figured i was gonna be a little touchey today. following this incident was the GINORMOUS field trip i got stuck behind trying to get down to the subway which caused me to miss my train.

but let's not dwell on bad things rights? so instead i'm gonna post about something i thought was fun (sort of) and has at least got hilarious pics.

so the last weekend before Gohm moved back to Cali (which btw i was made fun of for; doesn't anyone else refer to California as "Cali"? i can't be the only one), one of his MANY tongsen (and yes i know i butcher the english translation of korean words) had a bday party at Slate. Slate i actually like except for its location (Meatpacking/Chelsea) b/c it automatically means you have to wait in line if you don't have a table which is reedonkulous for what is essentially a giant billiards place w/a lounge above it. either way, shots abounded and everyone had fun.
Minchul in particular since he was drunk enough to jump on top of Um which Um wasn't expecting and ultimately caused him to fall over onto a wet spot on the sidewalk. we all decided to go to Gahm Mi Oak (as always) for some food and Gohm, Stitch, Um and i followed Oppa and Joebo to their cars, hoping for a ride. the Boys Club came as well, although Muscles kept mentioning that their car was parked in the opposite direction, but nobody really listened to him. so we'd finally walked about 5/6 avenue blocks to get to Oppa's car when Boys Club finally realized how far away from their car they were and they had to head back and they would meet us in ktown.

(Minchul on top and Um on the bottom. notice the wet spot...)

we all got to Gahm Mi Oak fine, but Boys Club arrived about an hour after us. why? b/c they got lost. Muscles made the mistake of using Minchul as a guide and 1st they got lost trying to find their car although it was parked only a block from Slate, then they couldn't find their way to ktown and somewhere along the way they had to take a cab back to their car. Muscles was so pissed when he finally sat down to eat his sul rul tang. i suspect Muscles was kinda drunk too tho b/c after his sul rul tang arrived, he starts eating, then asks the waiter for rice. he then turns to me and Dom and asks, "shouldn't there be rice in this?" he continues to eat and suddenly realizes, yes, there is rice at the bottom of the soup bowl. we go to Gahm Mi Oak almost every time we go out. and they always order sul rul tang.

you can see why i was so stunned by his questions, right?
